The Ocean Import Coordinator is responsible for accurately and efficiently managing all communication related to International ocean freight. Committed to ensuring timely & accurate shipping, customs & trade documentation, & maximizing efficiency in the inbound freight process. Handling a broad spectrum of tasks; strong communication, attention to detail, & organizational skills are critical in order to consolidate and improve our freight procedures and ensure highest possible service at lowest possible costs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate bookings with freight forwarders
  • Closely monitor & follow up on shipments
  • Update shipment status, issue arrival notices
  • Handling ocean import/export freight documents/provide customs broker with documentation
  • Verification of OBL & payment requirements prior to shipment release; chasing documents when required
  • Tracking and reporting of extra costs such as demurrage, detention, exam fees, etc.
  • Review/Reconcile freight invoices
  • Communicate and respond promptly to all incoming freight inquiries (internally and from business partners both domestic and overseas) in order to properly manage and control daily operations
  • Analyze data and improve efficiencies where needed
  • Other tasks and duties assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience with Ocean Importing
  • Highly organized & detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong people skills
  • Excellent Verbal and Written communication skills
  • Knowledge of import procedures & international customs regulations
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word & Excel
  • General computer knowledge

Work requires moderate physical effort and use of motor skills requiring manual dexterity.  While performing duties of this job, the Colleague will regularly sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch.  Colleague will frequently lift, sort, carry, and place merchandise and supplies of varying sizes weighing up to 20 kg without assistance and over 20 kg with team lifting.  Work requires climbing up and down ladders, and working at heights.
